In 2016, Gillian Colan-O’Leary, a seasoned technology marketer and Belfast Director of Women Who Code teamed up with Conor Graham, a software engineer at Deloitte Digital and co-founder of Nigma, Ireland’s only student developer community to discuss how they could run an event that would be inclusive, diverse and allow developers to tackle real-world problems. Through this #HackTheHub was born.
We’re the largest hacker community in Ireland, working with over 30 companies including Amazon, Deloitte Digital & Google, have access to 2000+ developers, designers & entrepreneurs, and have successfully created jobs, startups and new friendships.
Ideas are the lifeblood of any company - be that a startup or a corporation. The best solutions often emerge from collaboration.
Hackathons are the playground for stimulating the creative juices and coming up with new ways to tackle business challenges that could result in improving current processes.
Drawing on a cross section of the technology community, you can expect to work in a diverse and welcoming environment.

"I've been a software engineer for almost 18 years now, and it was only during the #HackTheHub 2017 that I learned the importance of pitching properly. The best technical solution has little chance of success if you cannot raise and understand the interest in what you are building. Such experience was vital to help me approach entrepreneurship with an entirely different perspective for my startup in 2018."
“This year we decided to work with #HackTheHub to deliver an overnight hackathon for our tech conference. Their technical expertise, access to network and professionalism on how they worked with us was outstanding. We didn’t want to risk something going wrong and having specialists come in to deliver a world class service meant that we could focus our time on the rest of the conference.
“Having the #HackTheHub team work with us was fantastic. It was truly a breath of fresh air! The event was a tremendous success and the key things that stood out for me was their skillset on being able to execute, working with our stakeholders to ensure the scope of the problem and being able to develop out a roadmap so that we could work with the winning team to flesh out the winning solution.”
“This was my first hackathon and I was quite nervous beforehand as I thought everyone was going to be an expert coder. But I felt really comfortable when I got there as there was such a good gender balance and a real mix of abilities and experience. I was able to improve my programming skills by learning from my team members, eat pizza, win prizes and managed to build an awesome prototype that we got to pitch.”
“I got the chance to engage with an employer that ended up giving me a job! I had applied to all the jobs on the uni portal, but never thought the whole “networking” thing actually worked. Will definitely be attending next year!”
I just would like to thank #HackTheHub for inspiring me to create 2 startups. 1. Focused on cloud applications in the development pipelines and another focused on smart technologies, IoT mainly Bluetooth beacon and Alexa based projects. This would not have happened without you guys so many thanks.”
